Gate collection sharing, collective sale of television broadcasting rights, and joint merchandising limit economic competition in the product markets. These agreements apply to such leagues like the ice hockey, baseball, basketball, and American football. These agreements are based on the economic principles of profit maximization, which is often the objective of the professional team owners (Melicher, 20119). Team owners in Europe and the US have always deferred in objectives, with the paradigm of profit maximization dominating the North and non-profit making objectives, like maintenance of winning streaks, being a more embraced approach in Europe. In the economy of sports, the objectives of team owners, and the controlling leagues is important, considering the monopolistic nature of the league enterprise. The lie with of profit

Both these media forums fundamentally educate and inform the voters about the role of the political parties and the campaigns that are being done. What is even more significant is the fact that the element of persuasion gets an indelible cast on the min ds and hearts of the people if they have read it in the newspapers or seen it for their own selves on the television. An element of belongingness seems to come along with what is there on the newspapers and on television. This is the reason why many political campaigns center on the usage of both newspapers and television for their political mileage as well as to communicate select target audiences. This is one of the core reasons why immense success has been achieved within the related ranks under the discussion of persuasion leading up to the political campaigns and processes.

histrionics Protest to a General Accounting Office (GAO) - Research Paper ExampleOne of the major initiatives that have been put in place by developed countries is procural reform. This included the establishment of mechanisms by which offerors can question the officials in charge of the procurement procedures in the government departments. In case the procuring agencies are not compliant with the law and regulations governing the procurement process, the aggrieved parties undertake the provide protest. The major forms of federal bid protest include an agency-level protest, protest through the Government Accountability Office (GAO) and the jurisdiction through United States Court of Federal Claims (COFC) (GAO-03-673G Government Auditing Standards, 2012). Important aspects of Agency Protests Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) 33.103 gives the guidelines that must be followed by the agencies in addressing of the protests generated by the offerors. Having being established by the Executive Order 12979, agency protest stipulates that every last(predicate) the concerned parties must take all the necessary steps to ensure that the conflict is solved in an amicable way. Even though the government has understandably outlined the regulations that control the agency protests, most of the agencies complement the FAR provisions by initiating their own regulations that are not favorable to the offerors. A protest is initiated by an interested party. An interested party is an individual whose economic interest would be adversely affected by the failure to win a contractor through the award of the contact (Robert, 2012). This is one of the major aspects that are common both to agency and GAO protests. There is no jurisdiction on the protests that an agency can deal since it has the authority to deal with all the protests that are related to its contracts. However, according to Federal Acquisition Streamlining Act, a protest that is related to delivery order contracts or egress of the task that can be given to various contractors when an agency is in need of particular services or goods cannot be considered by an agency. In such cases, the aggrieved individuals institute a complaint to the delivery order ombudsman as provided by the FAR 16.505 (Federal Acquisition Regulations).

Naturally, in order to survive in this new climate remove, IBM saw it necessary to integrate a more global Outlook. In much the same way that certain businesses fail due to the fact that they are not able to change with the times, IBMs on the necessity of change and instantly integrated with it so that the risk of not changing could be ameliorated. The first and most obvious strategic advantage to IBM of globally integrating its scheme has to do with the fact that it will be able to take advantage of the unique aspects that certain markets exhibit. Consuming and Fashion Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2250 words
Consuming and Fashion - Essay ExampleThe essay Consuming and Fashion discusses the fashion and consuming. The ever increase tastes and preferences alongside the increased merchandise differentiation and the global practice of trade have meant that the role of marketing within any business entity is very constitutive(a) certainly the most crucial. Marketing encompasses the processes of analysis of the target population (market segmentation) to identify trends in consumer needs and wants new product research and development product dispersion and promotion effort and the feedback mechanism. The changes in consumers tastes and preferences mean that there is a trend in which products and services are in demand at a stipulation time and which are not. Marketing Management Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Marketing Man maturatement - Assignment ExampleClustered securities industry might reveal distinct preference clusters, called natural market segments.Own brand with formulateable and price sensitive consumer who looks for more modern looking footwear but price conscious because short duration of styles, actively targeting people between historic period group of 35 to 45 years.(b). Marketers advocates a need based market cleavage approach. Robert J. Best (2000) proposed seven step shape and these are i. ineluctably-based section ii. Segment identification iii. Segment attractiveness iv. Segment profitability v. segment positioning vi. Segment Acid test vii. Marketing mix strategy. For effective segmentation process, the market segment must be i. Measurable ii. Substantial iii. Accessible iv. Differentiable v. Actionable. Now on the basis of above 5 parameters we would discuss Clarks segmentation process. Clarks market segment could be measurable. As we know that consumer expens e on footwear is increasing by 3.5% producing an additional GBP 166 million. Clarks brand is controlling 10% of consumer expenditure on footwear and over 30% of children shoe market. Targeted market segment of Clarks is comparatively and young affluent generation between age group of 18 to 30. This generation is fashion driven, ready to spend money and realize earning. They are looking for more modern designed, trendy, easy to wear, comfortable and stylish foot wears. This age group has the potential to buy as well as influence the other segments also. So Clarks segments are measurable. This market segment is substantial also. A boastful number of persons belong to this age group. They have similar kind of needs. They want to wear exclusive designs that have brand name also. Clark is known for its quality as well as for its brand name so when Clark has launched the specific products, which fulfilled the needs of, the new market segment, people tend to buy those products. This segm ent has been good accessible and Clark has reached to them effectively through advertising with catchy slogan via modern communication media i.e. through T.V and terrestrial and satellite channels. This young people between age 18 to 30 are easily distinguishable through their attitudes. The second segment, which Clark is targeting, is between age group of 35 to 45 who are fashion orient but more prices sensitive as well as also make decision while buying shoes for their children. So they are decision-makers also. They have the purchasing power and they are looking for style as well as comfort. These segments have different needs and requirements than any other segment. So no two segments could be mixed up. Finally Clark has formulated an effective integrated flexi communication strategy to attract its newly targeted segment, which is predominantly fashion orient. This fashion oriented affluent segment of younger people creates a major market potential in terms of buying practice s and tendency to do expanses on fashion oriented objects like footwear. So if we evaluate keeping in mind the different segments of Clark we could easily find that Clarks segmentation process is good but needs

Empiricism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Empiricism - Essay ExampleWe should reject lastledge claims concerning matters of fact about the nature of the world which are non supportable by the evidence of experience. This leads to a tendency among empiricists to emphasize that the limit of human knowledge and imagination is bounded by the limit of our experience. Empiricists reject the rationalist claim that it is possible to come to know by a priori reason alone the nature of an intelligible real world inaccessible to experience that stands beyond appearances. The empiricist may argue that concepts (such as substance), and the terms that express them, are heart and soulless or else must relate to some possible experience, since concepts and terms get their subject matter by reference to some possible experience, but a world beyond experience cannot be a world that might possibly be experienced in either case it is not possible to use meaningful concepts to talk of a world beyond possible experiences. The tendency in emp iricism is also to deny the existence of natural necessity necessity is a property only of pellucid relations between concepts, or of logical relations between ideas or thoughts, not between things or events in the world whose existence, nature and connections are all dependant upon(p) such natural contingent connections can be discovered not by reason, which can establish only necessary truths and necessary connections, but only by experience. Empiricism is given up to argue that there are two exclusive and together exhaustive types of proposition. (a) Propositions whose truth, logically speaking, can be known merely by understanding them, or by deductive reasoning alone, independently of the evidence of experience truths of reason. (b) Propositions whose truth, logically speaking, cannot be known merely by understanding them, or by deductive reasoning alone, but which depend on the evidence of experience truths of fact. All propositions which tell us anything about the real or actual world are truths of fact. Propositions stating matters of fact cannot be known to be true merely by our understanding them, or by our deducing them from other propositions known to be true by the understanding alone if we can know them to be true at all, they must be known through consulting experience. It should be noted that the distinction is not the genetic one of how we come to have, acquire, or understand these different sorts of proposition, but a logical question concerning on what, once acquired or understood, the truth or falsity of a proposition depends, and on what knowledge of the truth or falsity of a proposition depends. If the truth or falsity of a proposition depends only on the meaning of the terms in it, then it is an a priori proposition whose truth or falsity can be known a priori by reason alone independently of verifiable evidence. If the truth or falsity of a proposition does not depend only on the meaning of the terms in it, then it is an a posterior i proposition whose truth or falsity can only be known a posteriori by empirical evidence, not by reason alone. (Frederick Copleston, 1964, 54)The basic contrast between rationalism and empiricism is an argument about the extent and nature of what truths it is logically possible to know a priori by the understanding independently of experience, by intellectual intuition

Female Circumcision Essay Example for Free
Female Circumcision EssayMany wo manpower in different split of the world have faced circumcision, usually known as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Africa is a continent that has extensively reported cases of FGM, and other parts of the world that utilizes whatsoever indigenous culture, especially the Islamic dominated Middle East countries. The age at which a woman undergoes FGM varies from one region to a nonher, such that a child after be natural could be subjected to FGM , while in other atomic number 18as, a woman who get under ones skins her first born is made to undergo the come. The communities that employment this custom h senescent high regards for the coiffure as it demonstrates transition period to womanhood. Therefore, this practice is made to ensure that a circumcised girl is taught the practices that would lead her to being a good wife and mother (IRIN, 2009a). hotshot commonality among the different members of the partnership who practice FGM is tha t the major aim is to make a woman remain a virgin until her marriage time, since the removal of her privates reduces her sexual desires. In most of the communities carrying out this practice, men prefer to marry circumcised women, meaning the p arnts have to make their daughters marriageable by circumcising them. Therefore, it can be argued that it is the men who make this practice to prosper. On the other hand, it is the role of the elder women, (mothers and grandmothers) to organize for the circumcision of the young girl, and in some argonas, midwives undertakes this role (IRIN, 2009a). This research paper will and so look at how FGM has been practiced in Kenya and the fight against the practice among some communities that hold high regards for the practice.FGM in Kenya Despite laws being put in derriere to fight FGM, especially the Childs protection Act of 2001, this practice is still very common and continues to be practiced in various parts of Kenya (IRIN, 2009b). Even thoug h there are many organizations in the country to educate the communities on the dangers of the practice, still the practice has not been stopped and to some extends being practiced underground. However, there have been increased campaigns by various bodies together with the law enforcement agents to see that the practice comes to an end. Kenyan women are circumcised as a ceremony to passage into womanhood. Many girls in Kenya who come from the communities that practice FGM do not continue with their education. This is because the moment a girl undergoes this practice, she is deemed to be fit and ready to get married. It is because of this that there are several communities that have as young as between twelve and fourteen years getting married to very old men so long as the men are able to pay bride price. It has turned out that men are using their daughters to get riches through bride price paid hence a girl circumcised is worth more price than uncircumcised girl.Because of this a ttachment, some girls are found to voluntarily undertake the practice since it is presumed to increase a womans respect (IRIN, 2009b). Maasai is one of the indigenous communities in Kenya that have strongly held to the FGM practice. There are many people from the community (both men and women) who are highly educated, but are afraid to talk openly against the vice in the community because of the fear of social repercussion, especially for leading who want to get elective posts comparable in politics. Community members believe that one cannot be a true Maasai if they are not circumcised.Among the Maasai, FGM is considered to bring comply to the circumcised and her family. This is because such a girl is eligible for marriage, which raises her status and the family in general. There have been increased criticism from the international community against the Maasai practice, but the community hangs on the practice, despite the government of Kenya criminalizing FGM. The Maasai communit y does not hold any regards for uncircumcised woman in the society no matter her level of education or stock-still the post she holds in the society. It is even amazing to find that some male candidates in Kenyan politics use the issue of FGM against women who are not circumcised claiming they are not fit to be in public offices. Such issues make fighting FGM to be a very difficult task (IRIN, 2009b). Even though there are many hardliners who have stood in the way of fighting FGM, the efforts of those fighting the practice has started to bear fruits in Kenya, and especially among the Maasai communities. There are some aspects that are associated with FGM that the community has easily been changing. For instance, the practice involved the use of one knife for circumcising various girls. But because of the teachings concerning HIV/Aids, the circumcisers have been convinced that it is dangerous to be using a single knife for several people, and have thus started using a single knife fo r each girl. There are exclusively a few circumcisers who still use one knife for different girls, according to a survey done by Maendeleo Ya Wanawake (MYWO), a women organization that has been at the point campaigning against FGM in Kenya.Although this change appears, slight, it is a show in the right direction that the Maasai community can be convinced to change spare and harmful cultural practices to the better course of the society at large (IRIN, 2009b). There are various measures that have been put in place by the organizations fighting the FGM practice in Kenya to see that this practice comes to an end. One mode has been the introduction of the alternative rites of passage. In this practice, all the activities, teachings and practices that the girls are undertaken during the circumcision period are taught to the girls who are of age to be circumcised, but excluding the practice of cutting their genitalia. MYWO has held these alternative rites passage practice yearly among d ifferent communities in Kenya. In these activities, girls are taught traditional methods of change state a good woman, while other formal education programs are again incorporated into the teachings. There are many communities that have adopted this remains of alternative rites of passage, but among the Maasai communities, it has been received with a lot of mixed reactions, thus only causing limited success. The concern and the major reason for the Maasai and other communities to practice FGM is basically to reduce sexual urge among the girls, so that they can remain pure until their marriage time , and once married, be faithful to their husbands. This concern does not seem to be raised in the case of using alternative rites of passage (IRIN, 2009b). Religious leaders have also of late been at the forefront in the fight against FGM practice. Muslim dominated region of North Eastern Kenya has been also known to have high percentage of female circumcision. However, of late, the Muslim ghostlike leaders have taken up the initiative to teach their followers of the importance of doing away with FGM practices. The phantasmal leaders campaigns mostly on Fridays when they offer the ghostlike teachings. The leaders have played a major role in informing the women that FGM is not an Islamic requirement, hence has to be abandoned. The council of Imams and other Muslim religious leaders has chosen to be undertaking their campaigns on Fridays because it is the time many Muslims gather together as community for their prayers. This is also considered a cheap set out of reaching many people, than having to undertake expensive workshops in hotels (IRIN, 2007). Like the Maasai, the campaigns in the North Eastern Kenya have received mixed reactions among the community members. There are those who feel that the practice should be stopped, while others feel that the practice is aimed at protecting the girls, hence it has to be preserved at all costs. Many girls in the North Easte rn region of Kenya lead miserable lives since they are forced to get married immediately they are circumcised, and they do also have poor people lives to lead in their marriage, since they face problems like divorce, for not satisfying their husbands sexually and birth related problems associated with FGM practice (IRIN, 2007).Conclusion Kenyan government made FGM an nefarious offence when it passed the childs protection Act of 2001, but due lack of enforcement of the law by prosecuting the those who carry out the practice, FGM has continued among different communities like the Maasai who hold a lot of regards to their rituals, hence living according to the traditional rules and refuse to embrace modernization.Nevertheless, with the increased activities of the outside world within the communities practicing FGM, their influence is slowly changing the perspective of the community especially among the younger educated generation who do not want their daughters to undergo the practice like themselves or their wives. Therefore, this practice is bound to come to an end, but it will take time to change the minds of the indigenous people. Reference IRIN (2007). The Effect of the Internet on the Newspaper Industry Essay Example for Free
The Effect of the Internet on the paper Industry EssayThe Effect of the internet on The Newspaper Industrys RevenueIntroduction The juvenilespaper constancy is of late facing financial crisis as a result of the rising competition facilitated by news outlet on the global network, that is, the internet. The internet has changes of how people choose to access information. In 2012 eight major American newsprint were declargond bankrupt. Having nearly 1400 newspapers countrywide, approximately half of them will go out of business by the end of the next decade. In between 2002 and 2009, aver senesce sign circulation went down by 14. 5 share. Over 85 percent of the newspaper revenues are usually precipitated from their advertisement sales. However, among the newspapers with subsidiary wind vanesites, the get a mean less than 10 percent of these revenues from their own web ground content (Kirchhoff, pp. 2-4). The prime challenge facing the newsprint media is their incapability to make a profitable transition to their web base political platforms. I will explore on the challenges that the newsprint media face as they struggle to make a profitable transition. I will offer realizable strategies that the newspaper industry can utilize in a near future. It is of vital importance that the content should follow in line with what the medium demands in order to succeed in the current growing frontier of the distribution of news. The print media has been dragging by slowly embracing the new internet based technology and they are yet to flourish in stepping the line between ancient print content and interactive multi-media demanded by online glance overers. So as to get at par in the future, the print media must adopt a more modern user interface and business model that will be viable in link with online advertising policy standards. Generally, advertising revenues hold the vast majority of income for newspaper industry. Unfortunately, since print circulat ion fill declined and quite a get along of readers are moving onto the internet platform, the advert sales have not travelled the same path. In fact, in the 1st quarter of 2010 revenues declined by all over 25 percent, while the Pew Institute gives estimations that half of this was as a result of financial crisis, it is very unlikely that they will heal. There are 2 types of advertisement by which the newspaper based industry earn income. One involve the corporate advertisers trying to market and sell their services and products, and the other is the ads move in the classified area, car and junk sales, personals and divine service wanted. The issue with both of this advertisement types is that they have already evolved in the internet platform without a print media, and as many newspapers try to venture into online play, they are limited in capturing majority of these advertisers back, since they have already moved into more preferable efficient methods. corporate advertisem ent allow selling of services by advertisers to invest heavily on depend engine based promotions, search as Google who offer ways for investors to advertise themselves. Instead of buying ancient banner, businesses can pay for their ads to emerge from search results each time related keywords are entered into the engine. Also if a likely customer types in mens shoes, not only will a companys ads will pop up in the search results, but also the ads will emerge in margins of other related sites that he or she will visit, provided the websites that have subscribed to Google advertisement sales platform. This platform is unique as it cannot be compared to any media including print media. Most advertising platforms are operated via software engines like Bing and Google. The predicaments that the newspaper industry face are on the news portal that this web platform sites run. They can post headlines from internet of major news organization companies, followed by a small by-line, which ar e thence associated with advertisement on web pages. The news print media feels feel that this possesses a short hand for them in attracting potential sponsors. Portal administrators maintain that these links help bring thousands of readers to the news sites on daily basis. Nonetheless, the newspaper industry should understand that advertisement on the internet platform is not as static as the print media. Online ads are not only interactive, but also offer instantaneous results since one can locate an e-book of interest and purchase it right extraneous by just clicking a link. In the web platform everything is temporary and the up upcoming trend in promotion of services and products is not a funny lie, but a reality. Newspapers should adapt trend and meld it into their interface and content, increasing hyperlink and ad-words, including move embedded streamed videos, and selling in return (Kirchhoff, pp. 8-12). The core indicate why newspapers internet platforms are not viable i s because most of the outlets taking merits do not understand that they can maintain their information bur are required to review their form to translate to the age level of interactive message(Postman, p. 111). Classifieds play a huge impact on the decreasing profits advertisings on the web pages of print media. Averagely, classified ads sum up to 50 percent of ad revenue in the outdated news print media (Kirchhoff, p. 8). Most of this ads have migrated online to sites built for this types of ads and almost all offer products put down of charge. For instance, sites like monsterjobs.com for job offers, Zillow.com for real-estate, and popular of all craiglist.org, a global non-profit site that is broke down into thousands of localize boards, and include advertising for everything from dancing classes, to lost pets, to single ads, to auto sales, and to the help wanted. It is pretty impossible for the newspaper print media to gain back this market online so as to harness it to sti ck income. People worldwide are too trenched into new cost free medium of classified ads to get back into an antiquated payment for space system. Because this new revenues are all but lost the newspaper with an online presence will have to look for new ways to generate remarkable profits (Curran, 2010). The web platform media has its original unique culture. A culture that is usually driven by the availability of infinite content that is free to access. The ability to access the internet is seen as a great equalizer, spreading across economic, social and geographical boundaries to connect with people globally like never before. The availability of web free content in websites result into paywalls or subscriptions being met with solid resistance, especially when that content can be accessed from different web pages with no cost. It becomes a hard concept to embrace in an outlet which is entirely based around subscription. While some organizations have been subjected to limited vic tor with this methods, it is a link with a kind of hybrid- fixup, which melds both web and print, for instance, the New York Times. Set-ups on e-readers, smartphones, tablets and phablets, give a very promising concept. Persons who own such devices and read books and novels are used to purchasing in order to download print content. By building up a subscription system that models itself after this, the newspaper industry online has a chance. Of recent Newsweek completely switched all its production and is now exclusively on the internet, with both subscription and free based content. Majority of subscribers are now set up via their e-readers and buy magazines through brokers like Amazon, since their minds are set up to paying for downloads and less resistance to online news subscription. Newspapers are now an example of traditional media outlets. Every document from the print out, to the fonts, to the arrangements and layouts evokes an old-fashionable visual image with the reade r. However, this does not translate well to the web. While transitioning it is not enough to just cut and paste the consentaneous content to a web platform page, the web developers, editors, and designer should adjust to the demands of potential consumers. The ancient method of advertising driven income should be discarded and new ways should be brainstormed in the industry. The only way the news print media can survive in this internet age will be to stick in within the internet culture and guide them to the new trend of stumbling along behind it.ReferencesCurran, J.
